Job Description SummaryThe Serials Cataloger Librarian will complete the retrospective cataloging and classification of the LMU Library's serial publications, bringing all into a single, consistent order, while adhering to national cataloging standards and local practice.
Qualifications and Requirements
EducationMaster's degree in Library Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a Bachelor's degree with substantial work experience in serials cataloging.
ExperienceGraduate level internship in cataloging combined with cataloging coursework, or two years paraprofessional experience in serials cataloging.
Knowledge and AbilityKnowledge of machine readable cataloging format, Anglo American cataloging rules, Library of Congress classification and Library of Congress subject headings. Familiarity with OCLC or other national bibliographic databases. Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces or other integrated online library systems. Familiarity with CONSER cataloging conventions. Make sound judgments in cataloging decisions, based on AACR2, CONSER, and system requirements. Communicate effectively with staff and student assistants. Key cataloging records and system codes accurately.
