Nines --
The users manual for Electronic Reserves is really bundled with GUICAT
(Cataloging Workstation for Windows). While it goes into very little
detail about the use of the Publisher Code, here are the basics as best
as I can tell.
The publisher code is an important element in the use of the software by
the patrons and the generation of statistics. The code is a ten
character alphanumeric code THAT IS NOT VALIDITY CHECKED (not sure why I
went to all caps, but its Friday). The suggestion in the manual is to
use it for "copyright tracking." What is very important to remember is
that if you have a value of "000" in the publisher code, the webpac will
NOT ask the patron for authentication to view the attached image. Also,
I used non-text characters (@#$%) once and it did not let me pull up the
document.
We used ECR for the first time last semester and used standard
abbreviations for press names in this category for the few articles we
placed on reserve. Most of our use was for exams, tests, class notes
which are more straight forward. For these, I used a generic code of
"prof" for professor. But starting this semester, I am going to make
this more useful by including part of the professor's name in the code:
Seeman -- prseem
Jones, David -- prjoned
Jones, Richard -- prjoner
etc. Since you have ten characters and only your imagination as you
guide, you can use them for just about anything you want.
Hope this helps --
Corey

Subject: Electronic Course Reserves
Hello
The Complutense University Library of Spain has just started using the
Electronic Course Reserves module a few months ago and we would like to
know if are there any institution using the publisher code of article
summary grid fields in Cataloging/Scannig Workstation?
and which is the aim?
Thanks in advance for the response,
Nines
