Job Description BIBLIOGRAPHIC SUPPORT
SPECIALIST ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA Position
Description Under the
direction of the Associate Director, this full-time position assists in the
operation of an Innovative Interfaces INN-Reach system and a Innovative
Interfaces Millennium integrated library system. This person will oversee the integrity
of the ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA bibliographic database, as well as assist with system
training and documentation in technical services areas such as cataloging,
acquisitions, and serials control.
This is a permanent appointment dependent upon funding by the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Position
Qualifications ALA-accredited
MLS. Three years of OCLC cataloging
experience, with a working knowledge of LCSH and MESH authorities, and Dewey,
LC, and NLM classifications.
Experience with the Innovative Interfaces library system, including
training and user support, is preferred.
Excellent writing and organizational skills. Ability to deal effectively
and efficiently with a variety of system users. Position
Responsibilities Helps ensure the
overall integrity, completeness, and quality of the ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA
bibliographic database of 6+ million MARC records and 36+ million
holdings. Coordinates
initial and ongoing cleanup of the ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA bibliographic
database. Assists with
implementation of barcoding projects. Works with
catalogers and other technical service professionals to develop bibliographic
quality control guidelines. Provides
statistical reports on database activities. Trains library
staff members in the use of the Innovative Interfaces Millennium system
technical services functions. Deals with
Innovative Interfaces support personnel on database and technical services
issues. Coordinates
development of locally-produced manuals and guides. Acts as a
resource for Innovative Interfaces Millennium system questions in technical
services areas. Attends
Innovative Interfaces update training sessions. Other duties as
assigned. Position will be
available as of July 1, 2002.
