Using a barcode scanner for cataloging

Hello everyone,

 

I've been playing around with a Cipher 1000 CCD barcode scanner at my cataloging station and trying to find a way to make it worth my time to use this thing.  I am cataloging in CatME and adding the 949s there before I export them into the OPAC.  I want to program the scanner to print a standard prefix (949____*rec=...) before the barcode and a standard postfix (/sta=-/loc=main/...) after it.  To do this I think that I have to create CatME macros which I can then program into the barcode scanner. 

 

Has anyone out there done this that may be willing to share some of their secrets with me?
