Hi all,
I have several questions for those of you who are
expert in WebOPAC issues.
From recent postings, I see that we can have a test
port opened to the Web Server.
Does this create a "second instance" of the WebOPAC
? I would like to test any changes to WebOPAC pages ( mainmenu,
opacmenu_sX, etc.. without cludging up the live system.
Also, to prevent patrons from browsing the I'net
with a PC dedicated to the catalog, some of our consortium members run the
WebOPAC in Netscapes "kiosk mode". Anyone know how to do this with
IE?
Thirdly, for those libraries running in kiosk mode,
I have designed a framed mainmenu.html with leftframe/mainframe. The leftframe
has buttons linked to /search, /ftlist, /patroninfo and so on with the target
being mainframe. When you hit 'Search' the search page (opacmenu_sX which has
liked text to /search/t /search/a etc.) pops up in the mainframe. So far so
good. Enter a search for title, author or whatever, and the results also show up
in the mainframe. BUT - if you click on an item in this list, the
resulting page opens up over the top of the entire framed widow, blocking out
the leftframe and consequently leaving the patron with no way to return to the
control buttons in the leftframe. Any way to prevent this?
Last but not least, a 'Back' button in the
leftframe designed to allow the user to return from a non OPAC page, such as
NetLibrary, and linked to javascript:history.back(1) works fine in IE but
not in Netscape. The keystrokes Alt-Left Arrow work in both Netscape and IE but
I don't know how to simulate this in html or java. Anyone?
