*We get all of our books through OCLC and so we enter the OCLC number as
the barcode. The number is written on the slipcover so when the patron
picks it up, the desk staff enters the number at check-out.

*The requests are entered by the patron via our OPAC. When we process them
and make the OCLC request, we do not use the automatic "send request to
OCLC" aspect of the system (we prefer to go into OCLC ourselves for each
request as this allows more flexibility). Instead, we just use the email
message option. The ILL assistant sends the message to me (her supervisor)
and in this way I have a file of the requests and keep informed on what's
going on. We enter the OCLC number in the note field on the ILL request.

I put together a web-based training aid that I created by basically editing
the Innovative manual, eliminating the details on aspects of the system we
don't use (like the ARTEmail system or the Z39.50) and breaking the process
up into bite-sized pieces. I don't think my staff used it much (they
prefered one-on-one question and answer sessions) and it really only deal
with the very general process, but maybe it will help youL
