- Subject: Swipe card readers
Hi Everyone,
I am investigating if anyone is using a swipe card reader probably at the
circulation desk, self
check-out, etc. to read patron's library cards. I guess I am interested in:
brand names used,
interfaces needed to III, CBORD, or anything else. We could discuss this on the
phone, or post
to the list.
The reason I'm asking is that our university is using an "all-in-one" card. The
cards are heavily
used by our students for everything: meals, entrance into dorms, candy machines,
laundry, library
card, bus pass on our city transportation. Because of this use, the cards get
beat up, and the
barcode printed on the card is often damaged. Actually over 80% of the cards are
unreadable by
our barcode reader. One possible solution is to put the barcode into the
magnetic strip.
