Subject: I wish there were more label types for item records!

Looking over the subjects about labels...it occurred to me that there's
one enhancement I have failed to put in...

I wish there were more label types for item records labels.

We have multiple label formats for serials so each record can have a
unique call number format (or 6 different formats at least) to print out
on the labels for that issue...but we do not have this for the monograph
collection. Everyone in our network must share the label format for
item records.

We have a collection that uses dashes within a locally created call
number scheme. Because we have to use the LC format for labels for
everyone in the network AND there is only one label format for item
records...we cannot assign a label format for those particular item
records so it wont return after each dash (like LC class does with
dashes and periods). And if we do it does it for everything...and
messing up LC labels. So, we are stuck typing these labels using MsWord
instead of using the library system. This seems crazy, but seems to be
the only alternative besides recataloging the whole collection...

Another fix field for label type in the item record would fix this
problem...

Does anyone else wish for this?

gde
