Mary Ellen --
I would like to toss out one possible scenario. Since you are stating
that you are creating a template with fixed fields like language, you
are then creating either a bib or an order record (off the top of my
head, I think those are the only records with LANGUAGE fixed fields).
However, by inputing the 090 and barcode, it appears that you are trying
to create an item record. Probably when you type the "b" for barcode,
you get the "ALT NAME" entry, not the barcode entry.
While I do not have all the information, it appears that you are
creating a bibliographic record template and not an item record
template. The ALT NAME is a INNOPAC Field Tag that often uses "b", the
same value as barcode for item records. So is it possible that you are
selecting to create a bibliographic record template when you wish to
create an item record template.
I have found that the process can be very confusing for the creation of
templates, but doublecheck that you are indeed trying to create a item
record template. If that is the case, you might need to wipe out the
installation and reinstall GUICAT. If you do that, be sure to delete
the C:/GUICAT directory so the temp files (a source of my pain once or
twice) is wiped off the face of your computer.
It may also be the case that your authorizations do not allow you to
create item templates and the only option is bibliographic records, but
that might be a longshot.

Subject: catalog template
Hi
I am a new user of III and our cataloging was working well. We replaced
the
PC with a new Dell running Windows 2000 and now we cannot create a
cataloging template. I have called the help desk, but they don't seem
able
to fix this. We go into create template, set the language and other
fields
then we try and add the 090 field and the barcode field. The template
keeps
trying to add the "ALT Author" field. I know this is probably something
very
easy, but I cannot figure it out. I would appreciate any help I can get.
Thank You
