Julie,

We decided to begin using the YTD field, but we are using it in an unusual way.

At the end of 1999, we zero'd it out and had III relabel it as 2000-2005 so we would have a chunk of circ data for a five year span.  We came up on INNOPAC in 1994, so if we subtract the number in the YTD (2000-2005) field, we know how many time the item circulated between 1994 and 2000.  We plan to relabel the PYRCIRC field as 2006-2010.  All of this gives us a way to know when the item circulated, not just how many times.

Since we had circ data on our previous system dating back to 1971 (1971-1983 and 1984-1993), we now are able to select items that might have circulated a lot in previous years but less frequently now for transfer to our off-campus depository.

The manual is not terribly clear about how to activate this function but
if you go to the Release 2001 manual page code #102449, it is explained
that in order to activate the ability to rapid update the YTDCIRC field
(i.e. turning the value back to zero) you have to contact Innovative. I
think it means that in order to start using the YTDCIRC field you have to
contact Innovative (though this is not mentioned on the CSDirect page on
system changes made by Innovative staff).

When you first have this feature turned on I think you will have 0 in
the YTDCIRC and LYRCIRC fields. It used to take days to update these
fields at the end of the reporting year but the process is much faster
now.
