We are using new (2001) HP Vectra VL400's here (about 20 of them) and we are
also having rebooting problems. Thankfully this problem has occurred only
in five or six PC's so far. HP had me flipping switches, changing hardware
settings, etc. until they suggested reinstalling Win2000. I reinstalled and
immediately applied all the updates available for Windows 2000 and Explorer
before putting MS Office or any other software back on. After reinstalling
Office, I applied all available updates to it also. So far so good. The
ones that have had everything reinstalled and reconfigured have been
behaving quite well for about a month now.

Trish, was your PC bought between May of last year and July of this year?
Our
problems started with a single PC that would reboot when using Excel and
progressed
to PC after PC locking up or unexpectedly rebooting all over the building.
Nearly
every PC would lockup in a different way for different reasons. Over 20 PCs
were
locking up before we finally discovered that the Gateway E-3400 PCs we had
bought
were victims of a bad batch of capacitors that were used in the making of
the
motherboards.

>From what I know the only Gateway model that had this problem is the E-3400.
A few
other computer makers were suppose to have had the problem too but I've
never heard
which ones.
