I'm prepared to be corrected, but I thought item records could not exist
on INNOPAC without being attached to a bib record. We had orphan item
records on our previous system and had to pay Innovative good money to have
them loaded (attached to suppressed bibs) because we had not realised that
item data without bibs (i.e. without a 245 field) would be rejected during
the initial load.
If you do have items not attached to a bib in your database how about
creating a list of all items and sorting by the record number of linked
bib records: s (sort) ? (other types) b (bib) 9 (record no.) Those
without linked bibs should appear at the beginning of the list.

Mieko -- You are absolutely correct that items should NEVER exist
without being attached to a bib record. The same could be said for
checkins and orders. If you have items that are "orphans", this
represents a problem and may probably require a helping hand from the
good folks in Emeryville.
If you think there are a number of cases in your system where there are
items with no bibs, I would open a call with the item record number.

We have installed both Fortress and Secure Pc at one time or another.
Fortress simply cause havoc with our microsoft office suite. The
computer would simply restart without warning. This made us think we
were going crazy until FINALLY we got Fortress to confess. They sent us
a patch, but we never tried to implement. By that time we had moved to
Secure PC.
Secure PC works well with w2k and we have experience anything
catastrophic. However, I've noticed that it does not work as well as it
does on W98. There are some features that we doubt their effectiveness
on W2k and then when we run it on W98, it works fine. I think a lot of
companies developed their products for W99/98. Hopefully, now that there
is no 95/98/ME (Praise be!) they will move toward 2000/xp.
One think I like about Secure PC is that you can have a different
security profile for different logins so we can have a children's
security profile and an adult. In our case the only difference is
children's does not allow access to the a drive.
Used in conjunction with Public Browser we've been quite happy with
Secure PC.

Is there something different about Millennium in W2K. I use it in 98se
with 800x600 resolution and small fonts with no problems. All the modules
display fine. And the standard windows sizing techniques apply. -- Howard

I had this same problem, and changing the screen resolution made all
the difference. I haven't noticed any problems in any of the other

Our Circ. staff are interested in beginning to use the "Count
In-Library
Use" function. We are interested in counting Items that get
returned to the
Circ. Desk for reshelving, but have not been checked out.
All items returned to the Desk get scanned for "Check-In." We
were hoping
that an internal use Item field could be automatically
incremented for those
items "not checked out". Unless I'm wrong, it appears this is
not a system
option.
Instead, it appears that those "not checked out " items have to
be scanned
again under C,A,I - ( I > Count IN-LIBRARY use ). Is this how
it works? If
so, does anyone have any work-arounds or special workflow for
scanning in
batches for Counting In-Library Use? Or, would automatic
in-house counting
during checkin (as an enhancement) be more desirable?
Thank for your thoughts,
John

Folks -- I was COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After tinkering with my system, with some very helpful assistance from
Innovative, and I found that Milcirc was actually paying closer
attention to the details than I thought!
The two lines of text that can be added to receipt printing (on a
login-by-login basis) can be entered only if you system is setup to
print date due slips! (Makes sense, certainly). On our system, we had
Circulation Option #12 set to NEVER:
12 > Check-out: Print date due
slips.....................................NEVER
When Milcirc reads the system options, it does not gray out the options
boxes, but instead does not even show them at all in the printing tab of
the login manager. I changed the system option to ASK and sure enough,
when I went back into Milcirc, I was presented with the wonderful
opportunity to add the two lines for the receipts.
I thought someone from the helpdesk told me that it did not make the cut
for Release 2001, but apparently I was wrong about that.
Sorry for the confusion.

Right now, there is relatively little that you can set in regards to the
output of receipt printers. What you can set (namely the number of
lines between receipts for books) is in line 17 of the Circulation
Options screen of Set System Options (Release 2001 users manual page #
101917). You might also want to Page # 102204 (Release 2001), which
provides the overview of the Date Due Slips.

Hello Innovative folks:
Does anyone know how to create a report that will find invalid email
addresses.
For example, I want to create a list of all patron records that don't
have
a "@" or "." in the email address.
How do I write that as a regular expression?

The trick to conducting this search is to remember that not only should
the patron email field not have the "@" or a ".", but that it also
exists. As a test, I just searched for EMAIL ADDR does not have "@" and
I received all sorts of records where the EMAIL ADDR did not have
anything!
I would construct the search as follows:
EMAIL ADDR "~" (does not equal) <nothing> AND EMAIL ADDR "x" does not
have "@" (using option 2, any field)
OR
EMAIL ADDR "~" (does not equal) <nothing> AND EMAIL ADDR "x" does not
have "."
You will see--
Find PATRON records that satisfy the following conditions
EMAIL ADDR <> AND EMAIL ADDR does not have @
OR EMAIL ADDR <> AND EMAIL ADDR does not have .
This should do the trick. My batting average has not been great lately!

Why use regular expressions when a boolean search will do?
Have you tried
Find PATRON records that satisfy the following conditions
EMAIL ADDR <> AND EMAIL ADDR does not have @
OR EMAIL ADDR <> AND EMAIL ADDR does not have .
The second condition will only find addresses with no "." at all.

This is a MIME message. If you are reading this text, you may want to
consider changing to a mail reader or gateway that understands how to
properly handle MIME multipart messages.

This is a little more than what you may have expected, but the way I did =
it was to export all of the email address from the PAC over to a text =
file. I then wrote a Perl script that checked each email and prints out =
the emails that are incorrect. Here is the logic:
if($email !~ /[\w\-]+\@[\w\-]+\.[\w\-]+/ ) {
print "$email\n";
}
That snippet of code should be placed in a loop to check each email =
address. =20

Hi all;
In the character-based system, when a patron pulls up titles for a
course reserve, it is possible to sort the list by title, author, or
call number. In the WebOPAC it doesn't seem possible to sort nohow. Am
I missing something, or has the functionality disappeared in WebOPAC?
Hoping to be enlightened.

I have found that if you are adding something or deleting something and
before quitting you sort (we typically sort by title) the sort works in the
WebOPAC, but if you don't actually change the list just going in a sorting
doesn't work.

Hello,
I just received four copies of the auto reply I wrote for "out of office" =

I tried to write it to exclude my listservs and obviously failed miserably!=
I'm just glad I caught it before leaving you to all start hating me in a =
few days.

Our campus is (finally) going to upgrade the computer programs used by other
departments such as student records, bursar, and accounting. Naturally we
are interested in something that will easily interface with the Innovative
system. If you are interfacing electronically with other departments, I
would love some feedback. Which programs have been a snap to work with or
which ones should we encourage our IT people to avoid?
Thanks for the advice.
