One of HALAN's member libraries, Sterling Municipal Library
in Baytown, Texas (near Houston) requested that we post the
following job announcement:
Position Summary:
Plans, manages, evaluates, and implements the work of a
major division of the Library (Public Service/Technology),
and maintains responsibility for the administration of the
Library in the absence of the City Librarian. Attendance is
an essential function of this position.
Responsibilities include,
but are not limited to:
¨ Plans and coordinates operation of assigned division,
including administration of budget. Acts as Library Director
in absence of City Librarian; attends community functions as
Library representative.
¨ Performs personnel related duties including hiring,
training, coaching, evaluating, and disciplining.
¨ Acts as on-site computer operations manager supervising
the delivery of information to the public, maintains
microcomputers. Maintains Library's Web page. Develops and
conducts public and staff development workshops relating to
the application of integrated library system software and
usage of World Wide Web.
¨ Maintains copyright compliance for Library's software and
updates software as needed. Administers locally mounted
databases. Develops library applications utilizing standard
office software.
¨ Makes recommendations on policies, staff, programs, and
services; interprets Library rules and policies; supervises
reference.
Baytown City Government
The City of Baytown, Texas was incorporated January 24,
1948.
The City operates as a Home Rule City, under a
Council-Manager form of government divided into six
districts. The district residents elect the council members
from each district. The mayor and six council members serve
two-year terms.
The City employs approximately 550 full-time employees and
has an annual budget of $58 million.
The following services are provided by the City: public
safety (police, fire, tele-communications/911, EMS), public
works, water and sewer utilities, sanitation, parks &
recreation, library, planning & community development, and
other general administrative support services.
