Sally,
I've noticed that in an open-ending holdings, the presence of subfield k
always triggered the unwanted OPAC display of captions after the hyphen.
I don't think subfield k has anything to do with the display of gap break
though. When the OPAC option for Checkin record: Display 86x tag lines as
separate lines is set for YES, |wg will trigger the line break and the comma
will not display, as given in your example. No matter what the OPAC option
is set to, |wn, however, does not break the line and the semicolon
associated with it will display. For example,
|81.1|a1-3|i1991-1993|wg
|81.2|a5-6|i1995-1996|wn
|81.3|a8-9|i1998-1999|wg
|81.4|a11-|i2001-
OPAC display:
v.1 (1991)-v.3 (1993)
v.5 (1995)-v.6 (1996); v.8 (1998)-v.9 (1999)
v.11 (2001)-
I sent in a request to get it fixed but haven't heard anything yet.
If you set the OPAC option to NO, the OPAC display will properly display the
gaps with correct punctuations, but they'll all be in one line. (In the
Holdings tab, the punctuations for gaps are incorrectly displayed though.)

Lu,
You are absolutely correct. Changing "date" to "day" took care of my
missing "day"
displays.
|a |b |i |j |k is a problem however resulting in
|81.1|a73-88|b1-26|i1969-1976|j01-12|k6-27|wg
|81.3|a110-|b1-|i1987-|j06-|k6-|wn
v.73:no.1 (Jan. 6, 1969)-v.88:no.26 (Dec. 27, 1976)
v.110:no.1 (June 6, 1987)-v.:no. (
)
Note that selecting Gap break separator does not add a , after the first
range.
Thank you,
Sally
