Steve -- There is nowhere that I could find for a user to modify the
default settings for the 007. I was not able set this via the
character-based defaults for new record either.
I do believe, however, that you should be able to set up a default for a
new bib record with GUICAT that could have any combination of values for
the 007 or any special field. In theory, you could create such a
template and "drag and drop" the 007 from that template into the bib
record that you are editing. Depending on the number of steps and the
number of record, this may or may not be worthwhile.
We do not have Milcat yet, but I wonder if you can create a macro for
such an 007 (maybe just the characters taken from a field that has all
the values that you want) and add the fields that way? Maybe this is
food for thought but I would be interested to hear if anyone has been
able to do this.
Having said all this, I might pursue this issue with the helpdesk to see
if the 007 can have default values on a site by site basis or if they
are hardcoded.
Hope this helps --

Subject: 007 field
Hello,
When we add 007 fields to our bib records, the cataloging staff have
found
that they do not use the default values very often for material category
c.
Mat Catg c has 11 subsequent fields and they have default values.
Does anyone know how to change the default values of the 11 other
elements?
Thank you.
