We have more than a dozen collection locations in our library, located on
different floors (and with the main collection spread across two floors).
We are considering adding floor numbers to our branch names, to cut
down on patron requests like "Which floor is X on?" -- evidently they
don't look at the maps by all our OPAC terminals.
However, our first attempt, while it looked all right on the
individual title display screens in the Web OPAC, looked very bad
on the extended display browse screens; the branch name and floor
description in bold face were far too distracting and obvious.
The branch names were longer than the call numbers (e.g,
"Reference (2nd floor) HA 202", and people would write down
the branch location but not the call number
Has anyone successfully implemented a scheme like this? Or
found a way to change the bold/non-bold selection on the extended
display (so, say, call numbers are boldface and branch names
are normal text)?
