Dear Colleagues
We use primarily an 096 for class numbers in our library. Over the years
there have been a variety of practices concerning a subfield b for the
cutter portion of the number. Sometimes it was used and sometimes the
entire number has been entered in the subfield a. My previous experience
with an Innovative system had the entire number in the subfield a. What
are the ramifications of this variation in practice? How do you enter your
own class numbers? And why? Thank you for responses.
