Cataloger
Mount Holyoke College seeks an energetic and flexible librarian for a
position in the cataloging unit. The unit functions as a self-managed
team within the Library, Information, and Technology Services Department
and is dedicated to providing high quality access to resources for the
College community. The position will emphasize the cataloging of
electronic/digital resources using MARC records and may include the
creation of non-MARC metadata records. The cataloger will share
responsibilities for the creation of bibliographic records in multiple
formats and maintenance of authority records as well as provide some
reference desk coverage, serve as a departmental liaison, and do
collection development.
Qualifications: Requires a master's degree from a ALA-accredited
program; 3 or more years cataloging experience; knowledge of AACR2, MARC
formats (serials preferred), LC classification and subject headings; and
an ability to function well in a merged library-computing organization.
Preferred qualifications: Experience with OCLC and III; reading
knowledge of one or more western foreign languages; and academic library
experience.
The campus, set on 800 acres in the heart of the Connecticut River
Valley, has over 60 buildings and employs approximately 1000 full-time
and part-time staff and faculty. The College is a part of the
five-college consortium consisting of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke,
and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
All librarians have non-tenure faculty status. We offer a competitive
