- Subject: Re: Shelflist question
We closed our shelf list in the early 90's, after migrating to another
system. I'm really glad we kept it for awhile, but since we migrated to
Innovative, I have to admit we almost never refer to it. We will probably
get rid of it soon, due to a space shortage.
I see no reason to maintain the shelflist once you've completely automated
(and cleaned up the conversion errors). We keep an online shelflist by
retaining all item records (we just suppress the discards). If you can
afford this, it works great. (We haven't tried doing an inventory yet,
though).
One other comment. Keep as many of the discarded cards as you can for
scratch paper. We didn't keep enough when we dumped the card catalog and
staff really missed having those cards! ;-)
