DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinates, plans, and oversees customer computer training
and staff development
programs for seven computer training centers. Determines
and analyzes computer
training needs for staff and the public. Works closely with
the Community
Involvement Coordinator in recruiting volunteers from
outside agencies/businesses to
teach computer and technology classes. Formulates and
develops plans and implements
a full range of computer training programs for children,
adults and library staff
members. Develops a successful training program and
schedule; prepares and maintains
training materials. Provides instruction on the usage of
computers and technological
information sources and promotes the use of library
facilities and equipment,
including the use of electronic databases and resources.
Performs community
relations activities and programs for children and adults.
Conducts general
training sessions for the public on the use of Microsoft
Office products, internet
resources and basic MS Windows and troubleshooting tips.
Prepares monthly
statistical and narrative reports. Develops testing and
evaluation procedures to
measure the success of the Computer Training Centers.
Maintains contacts with other
companies, training organizations and associations for the
purpose of keeping abreast
of new training developments. Performs miscellaneous tasks
as assigned. Evening and
weekend work will be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in
writing. Requires the ability
to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to
changing external stimuli
moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make
coordinated eye/hand
movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance
demands with no real
speed requirements. The position is physically comfortable;
the individual has
discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major
sources of discomfort,
i.e. essentially normal office environment with acceptable
lighting, temperature and
air conditions.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education,
Personnel Management or a
related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of professional personnel experience involving
training in a formal
classroom and/or the development of curriculum and lesson
plans for adult learners
are required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with
the City of Houston
policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
Experience with Microsoft Office products and Windows 2000.
Experience with Web and
familiarity with the Internet.

SAFETY IMPACT POSITION
This position is subject to random drug testing and if a
promotional position,
candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
SALARY INFORMATION
This is a grant-funded position. Factors used in
determining the salary offered
include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay
rates of other employees
in this classification. The minimum to midpoint of this
salary range is:
Salary Range - Pay Grade 24
$1,378 - $1,904 Biweekly $35,965 - $49,694 Annually
