I think it really depends on your collection and your users. We don't have
any music and very little foreign language material, so, after trying the
uniform titles in the 't' field as III suggested, we ended up putting them
in the 'u' field along with most of the other alternate title MARC fields.
Our reference librarians as well as our users were confused by uniform
titles in the browse display. We also had some of the problems mentioned by
others regarding circular references from the authority records, so we
suppressed all our title authorities. When the issue arises, we unsuppress
any that seem more useful than confusing. This works for us because our
catalogers still have access to this authority information when they need it.
We don't have any 'm' field group tag either. I wonder if this was a
locally defined tag and the 'm' was a mnemonic for 'music?' Just a wild
guess...
