- Subject: Non verification of WAM users?
Hello:
Our school is in the process of implementing WAM. The committee
responsible for this project has been grappling with the issue of patron
verification. Every school I've talked to, which recently implemented
WAM, has had everyone key in a name and barcode to get access.
We are trying to figure out an efficient way to deal with an entire
group of people - faculty - who do not have library barcodes for
verification. Members of this committee feel strongly that faculty won't
want to input their barcodes, and therefore won't use the service. It's
difficult enough getting them to remember Westlaw and Lexis numbers,
which can be embedded in the software.
Is there a way to set up a class of people who don't have to type in the
barcode in order to be verified?
Can a patron type be associated with a verification or non-verification?
I'm familiar with the issue of be able to not verify if user is coming from a
particular address, but since this is remote access, there will be a range of
ISPs and addresses.
Is it possible to set up a patron barcode prefix, similar to an item barcode
prefix? I tried searching the User Manual but could not find the answer
to the question.
Your suggestions would be appreciated and will be shared with the
committee.
Sincerely,
