adv kw losing settings on "modify search"

Hello. We are a new III system and starting up with
advanced keyword searching. We are trying to customize
the adv kw screen a bit, but finding that when we do,
when the patron uses it then clicks on Modify Search,
it fails to "repopulate" the fields with the previous search settings.
I have seen a couple of sites, e.g.:
http://daniel.law.howard.edu/search/X 
that seem to have solved this problem for Netscape
but not Internet Explorer.

Does anyone have any tips, advice, or pointers to
examples that could help us?
