If possible, have your barcodes on the outside of the book.
The other thing is that if your shelf is drastically out of order it may give you odd results.

We last did a manual inventory of our 200,000 volume academic library a
number of years ago prior to or obtaining an online catalog. We are
hoping to complete our first inventory in the online environment this
summer using the percon protable reader.
Does anybody out there have any words of wisdom or procedures they could
pass on to us as we embark on this process? Respond privately please.
