Passwords and Authorizations

Had an instance where a staff member had forgotten what their
authorization password was. Unfortunately, I had to recreate the password
and authorization file for this user because, as far as I can tell, the
system will not allow the system administrator to change the password
without knowing the old password. On the other hand, the password in the
LOGIN names_parameters file, which determines which program to invoke, will
allow a new password to be issued - the warning message says something like
"user already has a password, issue a new one?" and that can easily be
changed.

There are several work-arounds, but I was wondering if anyone else
sees this as a problem? I didn't see anything in the archives, that of
course doesn't mean it isn't there. Is it feasible to request an
enhancement that would allow a system administrator (with the correct
permissions) to change the password without knowing the old password? Or is
the capability there and I'm just missing it?

If this capability is not on the system, I have a distinct feeling
this is going to become a more widespread problem because with Millenium
products a logon can be associated with passwords and authorizations, thus
the user no longer needs to set their initials (identify themselves) for
each level of access. Therefore, users that infrequently use the character
based system or Innopac for Windows will forget what their password is.

	Any ideas on the subject?

	Thanks for your time
