My understanding is that authority work USED TO BE done on the author names
but has not been for some time. The former authority work is why some of
the headings do have dates, for example.
We also have the names indexed in our author index. This introduces many
'first time use' headings that actually are not. And due to sheer volume
(ca. 4000 TOC records per month with multiple times as many 'new' names) we
have decided only to correct those that are reported or found while working
in the database.
