Karen,

Thanks so much for your prompt response. I still have some follow-up
questions.

Oddly, I haven't seen the 'repeat' option...

In our system, in Database Maintenance, Update records, once a record has
been opened you can type 'R' for 'Return to browse' from any bib, item or
order. This will drop you into the browse list for whatever you searched,
even if you only had one hit (as opposed to retrieving a list). You can
then type the line number of your previous hit to search for it, or can
select another line number from the list.

I don't see this in Database Maintenance Options, so perhaps it's one of
those mysterious things III has to turn on for you.

GOOD TO HEAR IT - YOU'VE GOT MY VOTE!

The discouraging response we had was over 2 years ago, so maybe progress
has been made. Just didn't want to 'throw my vote away.' If my presidential
vote doesn't count, at least my IUG vote should :-)

Sorry, I'm still unclear, and would hate for folks to waste a vote on
something we can already do.

When entering a new item record, you have the choice to either select a
template or base the new item on an existing one from the summary screen,
as with the text based system. Once the template/copy is selected, I've
never experienced any restriction on how much I could edit or add to it.
(Incidentally, we never edit from the summary screen, because this feature
has a history of unreliability.)

The only difference I see between GUICAT and the text version is that in
text, if there is only one attached item you don't have to bother with the
summary screen and go straight to the item record.

Is this what you're asking for? If so, I'd love to see that too!

HEAR HEAR!

It is also one my own library supports as we have

I now remember struggling with this at implementation as well, but again,
was given the impression that there was no flexibility in this area -
definitely it's worth a try!

Thanks again, forgive me if I'm just being dense.
