Systems Librarian/Library Systems Coordinator

Vassar College invites applications for a library systems
coordinator/Systems Librarian to join a cooperative team-based support
environment for educational technology within the libraries. The incumbent
will work closely with all members of the library staff,  Computing and
Information Services (CIS) and Instructional Media Services (IMS). Primary
responsibility will be coordination and planning for technology in the
libraries. Areas of oversight will include maintenance and support of the
library's on-line system, INNOPAC, computing hardware and software for both
public and staff applications, and microtext and audio visual equipment.
The incumbent will be asked to maintain continuing expertise in computing
technologies used to support library activities and will play a vital role
as a member of the senior management staff of the libraries, working
closely with the library director in long range planning issues related to
technology. The incumbent will coordinate the work of one library user
services consultant and multiple student assistants who will be responsible
for hands-on support for technology. Other professional library duties as
assigned and consonant with incumbent's expertise.

Requirements: Demonstrated expertise with integrated library systems,
microcomputer hardware and software in both MAC and PC environments,
web-based applications for libraries and electronic information delivery.
Knowledge of current trends in educational technology,  interest and
experience in working with technology, understanding of library
technological needs. At least two years of experience working in a library,
MLS or equivalent experience required. The successful candidate will have a
sense of humor, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong
mentoring and teaching skills. The incumbent must also be able to work
independently and as part of a collaborative team and display both
imagination and ingenuity in solving difficult problems. Supervisory and
instructional experience and familiarity with UNIX desirable.


The Vassar College Libraries are in the last phase of a multi-phased
construction project that has added approximately 30,000 square feet of new
space and includes an extensive amount of renovation to existing space. New
wiring and power has been extended throughout the buildings in order to
enable the Libraries to bring new library technologies to the desktop.
Included in the technology plan is the addition of approximately 40 new
public computers and multiple peripheral devices, a 40 seat hands-on
classroom, 5 group study rooms, an electronic seminar room for laptops, a
circulating collection of laptops and a multi-media laboratory called the
Media Cloisters which will facilitate support for faculty and student
projects using leading edge technologies. The technology support
environment in the libraries will include two full time user services
consultants, one exclusively for the Media Cloisters and the Group Studies,
the systems coordinator and multiple student assistants.

Salary commensurate with experience; generous benefits package, including
