- Subject: Mil Circ: staff members delete PINS in INNOPAC, Mil Circ
We are currently implementing Millennium Circulation in library circulation units. I am interested in knowing if libraries working with Mil Circ have noted this problem and come up with ideas on how to best manage it.
INNOPAC provides a useful function, D > DELETE pin, that can be accessed when viewing a patron record (from the M > MORE of patron record screen). A staff member using this function in INNOPAC can reset a patron's record, clearing an existing PIN that the patron can't remember and allowing the patron to create a new PIN on his/her own, through Web OPAC. To delete the PIN in INNOPAC, the required authorization is 94, View Patron record in Check-Out.
In contrast, there appears to be no similar functionality in Millennium Circulation. After retrieving a patron record in Mil Circ, you can view the record, using the View button, as long as the login being used has authorization 161 ("View patron records"). The patron record can be opened in edit mode, using the Edit button, as long as the login being used has authorization 164 ("Update patron records"). From this window, the PIN can be either modified or deleted.
The key difference appears to be that in INNOPAC, you can perform the PIN reset with a view patron record authorization, while Millennium Circulation requires an authorization to edit patron records. In practical terms, the ability to reset a PIN using a login with view record authority makes sense because it allows logins with minimal authorizations to be used at circulation public service points. Any ideas on how to best approach this? Thanks for any input....
