P. Key Diversity Resident Librarian
PROGRAM The Ohio State University Libraries, one
of the nation's largest academic research library systems, has the
resources and commitment to introduce and orient a recent graduate to the
complexities of librarianship in a highly diverse environment. The
two year residency is designed to assist a recent graduate in making a
successful transition to academic research librarianship and provides the
opportunity for hands-on experience in most areas of the University
Libraries' operations, including the workings of both public and
technical services as well as administration. The first year
includes introduction/orientation to the various departments and
operations, while the second year of the internship emphasizes one or
more araeas of special interest to the resident. Additional

The Ohio State University has a strong commitment to diversity and is
actively seeking qualified applicants. The University Libraries'
Mary P. Key Diversity Residency Program is one component of the
Libraries' commitment to diversity and is intended to increase the
diversity of librarians at Ohio State and to further the growth and
development of junior librarians. The residency will begin no later
than March, 2001.
QUALIFICATIONS Recent master's degree from
an ALA-accredited program (degree requirement must be fulfilled by
December 2000).
SALARY $32,500 per year, which includes an
allowance for benefits.
ENVIRONMENT Founded in
1870, The Ohio State University is a comprehensive, stateassisted
university offering a complete environment for learning for its ca. 3,100
faculty and 48,000 students at the Columbus campus. The University
Libraries system is composed of the Main Library, ten department
libraries, the University Archives, five special collections, the Law
Library and the Health Sciences Library on the Columbus campus; four
regional campus libraries; and the libraries of the Agricultural
Technical Institute and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development
Center in Wooster. The libraries have a staff of 250 of which
approximately 80 are Library Faculty. Its collection of over five
million volumes makes it one of the nation's largest research
libraries.
The
Ohio State University Libraries is a leader in library user education
with a program that reaches all entering freshmen students and a
developing program of courserelated instruction for upper level
undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a program of online,
selfpaced tutorials. It is also a leader in the development and use
of libraryrelated computer technology and is a charter member of OCLC,
Inc. and OhioLINK, a shared central catalog and a statewide circulation
and delivery network.
