Since the response is unsigned, I'm not sure who I'm disagreeing with, but ...

We did not notify III ahead of time. 
I did print their instructions from the web page and followed them. No checklist
was prepared.
It took us about 2 hours to download update C via ftp. 
We were not down during that time. 
We rebooted the system the following morning (so we wouldn't have to do that
during library hours). We did not restart all the terminals.
We also did not have any problems with loan rules. 
We did, as requested, notify III after we finished the update.

FWIW, we downloaded update C as soon as it became available. We use III's patron
self-checkout and it wasn't working in update B, so we were anxiously awaiting
update C. (Which has a new and different problem, which we've reported.) (I
think we found a bug.) (I want to know if we win a prize for finding bugs.)

1- You have to call III Help Desk 24 hours before upgrade.
2- Prepare the upgrade checklist.
3- It will take about 3 hours, your system will be down of course.
4- Consider to do the upgrade after 9:00 am California time to make sure a help
desk specialist is in the III office.
5- You will not notice any changes anywhere, but some of your old setup rules
will be changed (in our case some of the loan rules had to be changed).
6- After upgrade is done you will need to restart all your terminals.
That's almost all....

  I am about to implement update C and will like to know what kind of
experiences those who have already upgraded had during and after the upgrades. 
In other words, what am I to expect?  Will the system shut down during the
upgrade?  Will Circ, Cat, Serials be affected in any way?
