- Subject: Patron API and cgi coding (fwd)

We use the Patron API for patron authentication and authorization to our
proxy server. We wrote a "Patron" class in Java that handles connections
to the API, parses the returns, and enforces business rules like which
patron status codes are allowed to use the proxy server. Sometime this
fall we will begin using the campus Kereberos server for authentication,
but will continue to use the Patron API for authorization services.
Although I haven't used this to restrict access to specific web pages, it
would be pretty easy to do. Since Patron.class is written in Java, our
Active Server Pages scripts can use it to get patron data and we can also
use it in pure Java applications like the proxy server.
