I'm always puzzled by requests to the INNOPAC lists for programs that
interface with common administrative systems. Maybe someone can correct my
notion of these programs.

I thought administrative systems for institutions (PeopleSoft, SCT/Banner,
and the like) are just database frameworks for a local site to adapt to
their needs and requirements. But the underlying database structure is
going to be different for each individual implementation. And if each
implementation is different, there won't be one "program" that can be
shared between different institutions.

The reason I ask, other than for the fact that we are getting PeopleSoft
someday, is that I keep seeing these requests on the INNOPAC list, but no
one piping up and say, "We've got one!" Is such a program even possible?
