- Subject: thanks for help on patron record loading
Thanks to all who offered help on my recent patron record loading query.
A couple of people pointed out that the manual's section on patron record
loading (#14193 to #14210) was not the whole story with regards to data being
overlaid, etc. The section on Database Maintenance Options - edit overlay
protection list (#20050 to #20056) is also essential reading. Typically, they
are not cross-referenced :-(
Anyway, regardless of the fact that #14203 says that Innovative must make any
alterations/additions to the list of fields not overlaid (and doesn't even
mention the possibility of different types of overlay protection) #20051
demonstrates exactly HOW to alter or add entries and explains the different
types of protection. So I've made some adjustments, and it looks OK. (apart
from the fact that I discovered that for the past year we've been losing note
information, as that field wasn't protected at all and was therefore
being overlaid with a blank!) Now, if we have an address then the info from
Registry won't overwrite it, and if we don't have an address, then the Registry
one will load.
Now it just remains for me to try to work out why overlay protection code d
(delete) actually KEEPS the information you currently have, and overlay
protection code k (keep) actually DELETES the current information by overwriting
it! But that's Innopac logic for you.....
