The best search key is the date found in the fixed fields of the bib record.
Choose Bibliographic list and do the following search string.

choose the special fields key  @  (probably on the far right column)
choose option for the 008 field  (mine is option 1)
choose the number that corresponds to date 1
The search string will then be
date 1 < 1900
L would mean less than or equal to, so use the <  less than sign.
