Carolyn:
As they taught us in library school, "There is no such thing as a
stupid question", or as Forest Gump's mother put it, "Stupid is as
stupid does." ;-)
I can't answer for TNS, but I know that you can probably configure
your modem for silent dialing by use of an AT command in your
settings for your software initialization string. I can't give you
the specific command because this may vary depending on the type of
modem/software you have. If your modem manufacturer (or software
manufacturer) has a web address you can look at their web page and
see if they have a FAQ page for questions like that. Chances are
they have a customer support number.
You can also look in the CONTROL PANELS of your computer and see if
the MODEM settings allow you to just turn off the sound (assuming you
have a modem settings control panel). That's probably the easiest
solution.
   I hope that helps.

Subject: TNS question (probably dumb!)

Hello,

We're just on the edge of ordering the TNS from III. We're debating where =
it will go, and I realized I don't know if it will be a silent system, or =
will we hear it dialing? I hear my own modem at home & it would drive me =
nuts if I heard it dialing all the time. That info makes a big difference =
on whether it can be on a desk in our work area or needs to be in a corner =
of an unoccupied room.

Don't want to set up 4 phone lines & a PC, then drive everyone crazy!

Thanks for your help,
Carolyn
