Colleagues,

There was some discussion about self-checkout systems and self-checkout statistics in the INNOPAC archives, but I am trolling for some more current information, as Santa Clara is beginning to contemplate introducing self-checkout.

I would love the answers to these questions:

1. How many hours per week is your library open?

Approx. 80 hours per week

2. Is the circ desk staffed all hours that the library is open? If not, how many hours per week is the circ desk staffed?

Yes - we offer restricted services on Saturday and Sunday mornings - no borrowing available unless the self check units are used.

3. Are circulating materials checked out at any other service desk in the library?

SHort loans and audiovisual items are lent from other desks, however we now encourage as much borroing through the main desk as possible.

4. What percentage of total checkouts are recorded via self-checkout?

Main Library - About 60% A branch library is managing about 75%.

5. What would you say the response of your patrons is to self-checkout?

a.

a) Very satisified
b) Satisfied
c) Unsatisified
d) Very unsatisfied
e) Indifferent

5. What would you say the response of your staff is to self-checkout?
