I can see doing this for some journals. For example, the journal Pediatrics
has e-pages for each issue and it is very hard to find them unless you have
the actual issue in hand. We found out this the hard way when we discovered
the bindery had 'eliminated'  the cover with the URL's.
On the other hand, we are part of a consortium and are limited on the amount
of check-in records each library can have. Once the item is bound, the
check-in record is 're-used' within the next year.

I agree I would not want to do this for any ejournals that I do not have in
paper format - that is the luxury of not having to check them in.
