ASSOCIATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN 

Brock University Library seeks candidates who combine extensive and
broad-based experience in an academic library with strong management and
leadership skills for the senior position of Associate University
Librarian.  The successful candidate will become a member of senior library
administration, sharing responsibility for the overall direction of the
James A. Gibson Library by working in a collegial environment with library
staff and in close collaboration with the University Librarian.  Reference,
and Circulation Department Heads as well as staff in Cataloguing Services
will report to the Associate University Librarian who will focus on the
development, coordination and promotion of services to users throughout the
Library, with particular responsibility for Reference, Circulation and
Cataloguing services.  The incumbent will also have special responsibility
for staff development.  The Associate University Librarian will deputize
for the University Librarian as required.  

A minimum of ten years' experience in progressively more senior
administrative positions is required, as well as demonstrated effectiveness
in the management of unionized and non-unionized staff.  The successful
candidate will have considerable experience with library technology.
Experience in staff training and development is highly desirable. Excellent
oral and written communication skills are essential.  A broad knowledge of
issues and trends impacting academic libraries and an ability to provide
leadership in collaborative projects within and outside the Library are
required.  Candidates should hold an ALA accredited graduate degree; an
advanced degree in an academic discipline is desirable.

The James A. Gibson Library has collections in excess of 1.5 million items
and maintains access to many electronic resources. The total staff numbers
65, including 15 professional librarians.  The total annual library budget
is $4.85 million, of which $1.85 million is devoted to acquisitions.  The
Library provides services to more than 340 full-time faculty and to over
10,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate students registered in six faculties.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The search
