- Subject: RE: Spine Labels
Here is my summary of the issue, with the caveat that III may have enhanced
their capability in a way I'm not aware of.
Innopac can create print data for plain text spine labels. Your configuration
options in Innopac determine the number of lines and columns that will be in
each label (possibly a "set" of spine label plus pocket label).
The assumption is that this print data will be sent transparently to a
printer, where it will print out at 6 lines per inch, 10 columns per inch, or
otherwise dependent on the printer's front panel settings. There is NO
provision for 2-sets-across printing, or for cut-sheet labels (where something
has to deal with the "margins" at top and bottom of page).
If you print to an "attached printer" through a Windows telnet program, that
telnet program may or may not affect the data. If it completely transparent
(settings vary by program), then you get exactly the same capabilities as you
would have with a system-attached printer, or a printer connected to a dumb
terminal.
If the telnet program is NOT transparent, that is, it uses the Windows printer
driver, it CAN make things worse: changing the pitch, the line spacing, the
margins, or most likely, spitting out a page after you print one label. You
MAY be able to affect this by choosing a custom page length that matches the
distance from top-of-label to the next top-of-label (e.g., a 1" high page),
assuming this is a continuous-feed printer such as an OKI 320.
With AnzioWin as your telnet program, you can do either continuous-feed or
cut-sheet labels, either one-set-across or multiple sets across. You can
also print a full range of diacritics, or even CJK characters. We are happy
to help you work this out.
(Note that there still may be an issue of durability: will a laser-printed
label, for instance, last long enough?)
