Subject: Periodicals "Shelved as" a Title Different From 245
We shelve periodicals alphabetically by title, normally based on the title
in the 245 MARC tag. However, we also have a number of periodicals that
are "shelved as" a title different from that in the 245. For these, our
LIB HAS statement in the OPAC says "Shelved as......."
We are shifting our bound periodicals collection this summer and for
planning purposes wish to create a "shelflist" printout of the titles as
they *actually* are shelved. The trickyness of doing this prompts the
following questions:
1. How do you handle the alphabetical shelflisting of periodicals that are
"Shelved as" something other than the established title in the 245 tag --
e.g. "Monthly Notices" is shelved as "Royal Astronomical Society. Monthly
notices."
2. Do you have a separate INNOPAC field for "shelving title"?
3. Have you found a simple way to produce a list that integrates the
"shelved as" titles alphabetically with the titles in the 245 fields?
All suggestions, ideas, advice welcome. Thanks!
