Multiple Format Original Cataloger

The J. Murrey Atkins Library of the University of North Carolina at
Charlotte is seeking a progressive experienced cataloger to perform original
and adaptive cataloging of library resources in a rapidly growing and
changing technological environment.  The Library has recently merged it's
automated Technical Services functions from VTLS for cataloging and database
maintenance, and Innovative Interfaces for acquisitions and serials control,
to a single automated ILS using Innovative Interfaces Millenium software. As
a result the Library is in the process of redesigning workflows to both
streamline operations and incorporate the rapidly expanding area of
digitized resources into existing processes.
 
Responsibilities:  Perform original and adaptive cataloging of print,
non-print, and electronic resources in all formats; establish and maintain
name authorities; maintain and upgrade bibliographic and holdings
information in the Library's online catalog; assist in developing and
reviewing cataloging policies and procedures; participate in training and
upgrading the cataloging skills of other Unit personnel; and serve as a
resource person for the interpretation of database records to the Library at
large.  Reports to the Assistant Head, Technical Services.

Qualifications:   M.L.S. from an ALA accredited library school; at least
three years original cataloging experience, with experience in doing
original cataloging in multiple formats strongly preferred; working
knowledge of AACR2r, the MARC formats, LC classification, LCSH, and OCLC.
Experience cataloging in an automated library system, preferably Innovative
Interfaces.  Qualifications also include: strong interpersonal,
communication, and analytical skills; attention to detail; familiarity with
national trends in cataloging and authority control; ability to work both
independently and cooperatively; flexibility; the ability to work in a
changing environment; and a strong commitment to service. 

Status: Full-time, 12-month tenure-track contract with faculty rank. Salary
is competitive and dependent upon qualifications
