Like David Miller, we also have created intermediate pages that
we point to from our catalog records.
Since we want our own institutional users to see the
username and password but not the rest of the world, we have put
the intermediate pages in our intranet. The rest of the world who
click the hyperlink in the catalog record get a browser-generated
error message saying they are unauthorized to access the page.
Our institutional users get the intermediate page which includes
the username and password as well as a link directly to the title.
Unlike David, we decided to make a separate page for each title.
Some of our username/password publishers have long lists of
titles and we didn't want to burden our users with having to scan
through looking for their particular title. Also, at least one of
the publishers has a different username/password for each title.
We have about 320 such pages so far. It takes us only a few
minutes to create a new page by copying one that already
exists, so we have not found this to be a big burden.
