- Subject: RE: Electronic resources with passwords
I'm taking the liberty of replying to the list, because I was interested to
read Mitch's response and thought others might want to participate in
asynchronous-real time. We also do not have WAM.
We haven't asserted ourselves much in this area yet -- in terms of pursuing
electronic resources which turn out to require password access. However, we
have recently received 5 "free" electronic subscriptions from Mosby for
nursing journals. We can use the same username and password for all, and two
users can be logged in to any given journal at the same time. I have read
their conditions pretty carefully, and it doesn't seem as though access is
further restricted.
This is our experiment -- we have put up an intermediate "Mosby" page. URLs
from the catalog records for the print publications go to this page. The
basic conditions are explained there, the username and password are given,
and there are links directly to the sites (as well as to Mosby's complete
terms and conditions page). We ran this by the Nursing faculty and got a
good response.
Will this scale up? Maybe not, but that's the story for now.
