Jr., Sr., III, II ---- comma quandary

If you register a patron this way:  Smith, John, Jr.
your overdue notice address field looks like this:    Jr. John Smith

If you register a patron this way:  Smith Jr., Tom Henry
your overdue notice is fine and looks like this: John Smith Jr.

  BUT  in (Innopac) - View Patron a Patron record     Or in Milcirc -
nsmith
Smith Jr is filed between real first names.
     Smith Joyce
     Smith Jr
     Smith Juanita

Has anyone found a solution to make the name appear correctly on an
overdue notice as well as in patron listing?
