Science Direct (Elsevier) and WAM proxy

Is anyone getting to Science Direct successfully using the WAM proxy?  We
used to make patrons come into the library to set up their profiles with
Science Direct's secure server, but once that was done, they could use
Science Direct from home.

    Now when I go to log in my personal profile I get sometimes a "sorry; we
are fixing things" message from Science Direct; other times I get the 400
bad request screen "your client sent a query that this server could not
understand - Reason: Invalid or unsupported method".  I assume that this
means that the WAM has met a secure server and could not deal with it; so
far that is the only other time I have seen this screen.

    Has anyone else met and dealt with this problem?   I have no easy plan B
to deal with this.
