Here is what I would do (without knowing exactly how the problem came about)
1. Create a review file of item records with a CREATED date range that would
include
    the items in question.
2. If the list is short:
                       work from a printout.
    if the list is very long.
                       export key fields from the item record, pull them
into MS Access, and use
                       a the find duplicates function or use totals/count
option in a query.
3. After you have the list of identical barcodes, I don't know if there is a
big timesaver. I believe you might have to do it manually to make sure you
delete the 'bad' ones and retain the 'good' one.
