Same barcode numbers on different titles

We have run into a problem with the same barcode number being attached to
multiple, and incorrect, titles. It occured when we tried to use the ITEM
(Multiple) function to add a series of volumes. Evidently we entered some
incorrect information because we ended up with a few thousand  duplicates
that attached themselves to other titles and seem to have changed numbers as
well. We did try to delete the original range of barcodes off of the correct
title, but the duplicates are still attached to titles all over the place
and come up as duplicate numbers when someone brings an item up for
checkout. 

My question is: Is there any effective way to track down, and delete,  these
duplicates in an organized manner rather than waiting for reports from our
Circulation departments.
