The release 2000 manual (19723) says that you can choose not to have duplicate
checking prompted for (i.e. it's automatic) for items, patron or bib records
WHEN CREATING NEW RECORDS. So your library must have certainly chosen to
automatically check for duplicates on item records at least. However, you will
still be promted for duplicate checking when UPDATING records.
So don't worry, when you're not asked whether you want to check for
duplicates, that's because it's being done automatically, rather than not
being done at all.
