How about those items having a different IType rather than a different status?
Then you could do one of 2 things:
either set up a loan rule which lets these items circulate and the rule
selection table so that the "faculty" ptype borrowing this itype goes to that
loan rule, but any other itypes borrowing this itype goes to the
"non-circulating" loanrule.
or, set up that IType as one of the categories A,B,C or D specified in the circ
options, and in the automatic patron blocks table set it up so that the
"faculty" ptype CAN borrow that Itype, and the other ptypes can't borrow any.
